Carolina Panthers vs Houston Texans odds

This Panthers vs Texans Week 3 Thursday Night Football game is set to kickoff on September 23, 2021 at 8:20pm et at NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas.

The latest Draftkings NFL Odds have the Panthers as a -7.5 point favorite against the spread and -380 on the money line. The current total is at 43.5 total points.

The betting public is loving Carolina as the road favorite and currently have 71% of their money behind them.

Carolina Panthers Betting Preview

The Carolina Panthers are coming off a big 26-7 Week 2 win against the New Orleans Saints and looking to continue that momentum against the banged up Texans. Quarterback Sam Darnold is enjoying leaving the Jets and leading this Panthers team to a 2-0 start. Darnold over these two games has put up 584 yards, 3 touchdowns and 1 interception. The real reason why Carolina is a -7.5 road favorite in this game is because of their defense that’s currently #1 in the league.

The Panthers defense is only giving up an average of 10.5 points per game and also leads the NFL in yards allowed per game (190), rushing yards allowed per game (46.5), defensive third down percentage (25%), and 10 sacks at 10. Their offense is in the middle of the pack, scoring an average of 22.5 points per game.

Carolina is 7-0 against the spread in their last 7 games on the road and the total has gone under in 5 of the Panthers last 5 games.

Houston Texans Betting Preview

The Houston Texans come into this game 1-1 overall, but now have a ton of question marks now at the Quarterback position after Tyrod Taylor suffered a Grade 2 hamstring injury in their Week 2 loss against the Cleveland Browns. Mills took over for Tylor all second half and Coach David Cully said he’ll start until he Tylor returns. Mills in that second half went 8 of 18 for 102 passing yards, a touchdown and an interception.

This week Houston called up Jeff Driskel from the practice squad to serve as Mills’ backup. We can’t forget that they still have Deshaun Watson, but as per reports he’ll remain inactive and you won’t see him for this one. You’ll will see the Texans Big 3 in the backfield that consists of Ingram, Johnson and Lindsay are averaging 121 yards per game.

All 3 of them will need to have put up big numbers if they want any shot of getting the upset win. In this 2021 Season so far, Houston has the 11th best offense in the league, but have a subpar defense that is giving up an average of 26 points per game.

The Texans are 4-1 against the spread in their last 5 games and the total has gone over in 4 of Houston’s last 5 games.
