The Cubs and Astros both come in tied for the third-best record in baseball at 48-33, trailing only Detroit and the Dodgers. Chicago just split a four-game set with the Cardinals, finishing it off with a 3-0 shutout behind Shota Imanaga’s one-hit return and a homer from Michael Busch, who’s been locked in this month.

Houston has been hot, winning 12 of the last 15 and putting together a three-game sweep of the Phillies, though their offense has cooled off a bit, managing only five runs in the series. Their pitching staff has carried the load, allowing just one run in those three games.

Friday’s matchup lines up rookie Cade Horton (3-1, 3.73 ERA) for the Cubs against Brandon Walter (0-1, 3.80 ERA) for the Astros. Horton has looked sharp across his first eight starts and will be facing Houston for the first time. Walter is coming off a rough outing where he gave up seven runs on nine hits, including a pair of homers to the Angels.
