Iowa vs Maryland Picks and Predictions – College Football Week 5 (Friday, Oct 1)

Iowa Hawkeyes vs Maryland Terrapins College Football picks, predictions, and game preview for Friday, October 1, 2021.

Iowa vs Maryland odds

This huge College Football Week 5 Big Ten game between Iowa vs Maryland is set to kickoff at 8:00pm et at Maryland Stadium in College Park.

The College Football oddsmakers have Iowa Hawkeyes as a -160 moneyline favorite and -3 points against the spread. The latest over/under is at 48 total points.

The betting public currently has 66% of their money behind the Hawkeyes as the road favorite.

Iowa Hawkeyes betting preview

Iowa comes into this game ranked 5th in the nation with a perfect 4-0 record and the third best defense in the league. The Hawkeyes defense has given up an average of only 11 points per game this season, while offensively they’re scoring an average of 28.8 points per game.

Iowa has faced only Indiana, Iowa State, Kent State and Colorado State in their first four games, so Maryland should be the toughest opponent they’ve faced until they have to go up against Penn State next Saturday.

Quarterback Spencer Petras has only completed 64 passes over these first 4 games for 4 touchdowns and 1 interception. All eyes will be on Running back Tyler Goodson who will be playing on Sundays in the NFL soon. He’s already put up 364 yards on the ground for 5 touchdowns and he should be able to put up a couple touchdowns in this one.

I actually have a prop bet that I found today that looks like it has some value behind it, so I’m going to sprinkle some cash on and I want everyone to follow it, so just text  “prop” to 702-234-0597 and I’ll reply back to make sure you get this Friday Night prop bet.

The Hawkeyes are 6-2 against the spread in their last 8 games when playing as the favorite and the total has gone under in 5 of Iowa’s last 5 games.

Maryland Terrapins betting preview

On this other side of the field, Maryland comes into this game also with a perfect 4-0 record and have already got wins against Illinois and West Virginia who are both tough power five opponents.

Quarterback Taulia Tagovailoa has sparked this Maryland team into the limelight. He’s been playing on another level and currently throwing at a 75.5% completion rate with 10 touchdowns and only 1 interception.

Look for Taulia to test the Iowa secondary taking risks early to his top wide receivers Demus and Jarrett. Then that should open up the ground game for him and his number one running back Fleet-Davis to take over. This is a big game for Taulia since if he’s able to lead them to victory it will be the Terrapins first win over a top-10 team since 2007. Last season Maryland’s offenses was horrible.

They averaged scoring only 23.6 points per game. This season seems to be a different story since they are now putting up an average of 29 points per game, but the question will be can they put up those type of numbers against the toughest defensive opponent they’ve had to faced this season.

In 2020, the Terrapins were horrible on defense, giving up an average of 32 points per game. This 2021 season, they have the 25th best defense in the league, that is only giving up an average of 19 points per game.

Maryland is 4-1 against the spread in their last 5 games at home and the total has gone under in 7 of the Terrapins last 8 games against an opponent in the Big Ten conference.
